Tomorrow’s World Cup Final is Every FC Barcelona Fan’s Dream

In 2024, my best friend took me to a Copa America match to watch Argentina play against Canada at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

I’ll put my hand up and admit I was a soccer casual at this time, only watching Atlanta United matches and some of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

Even with my limited knowledge of the game, you could just tell that Messi was different than any other player on the pitch.

Seeing this Copa America match in person had me hooked. I watched every Copa America match after and even went on to watch the Euros as well.

As I shared in this article here back in 2024, I saw a 16 year old kid named Lamine Yamal take the tournament by storm as Spain went on to win the tournament.

After watching him play, I told myself I needed to watch whichever club Yamal was on. Once I realized he played at Messi’s former club, my allegiance was sealed.

Like Spain, Argentina also won their tournament that summer by beating Colombia in the Copa America final.

For winning their respective tournaments, Spain and Argentina were supposed to play against each other in a Finalissima earlier this year.

After nearly two years of waiting for the match, it was cancelled due to tension in the Middle East.

Flash forward to this summer, and Argentina and Spain are still the top teams in the world (ranked 1 and 2 in the FIFA rankings) and will finally meet in the World Cup final.

Yamal is now 19 years old and is arguably the best player in the world while Messi is still dominating the game at 39 years old.

Even outside of Messi and Yamal, there will be FC Barcelona players all over the pitch in tomorrow’s match.

Tomorrow I won’t be cheering for either team, I’ll be wearing a Barça shirt and enjoying Barcelona’s past, present, and future.
