The Falcons Are A Poverty Franchise

I have lived in North Georgia my entire life and have been burdened with being a Falcons fan for as long as I can remember.

There have been good moments. The Matt Ryan era brought about some deep playoff runs (please don’t make me talk about 28-3) and fun highlights.

Those good moments don’t mask the fact that this franchise is just overall a terrible organization in the NFL.

Since losing in the Super Bowl almost a decade ago, the Falcons haven’t had a winning season - while playing in one of if not the worst division in the league.

In 2024, they did something I’ve never seen before. They gave a free agent QB in Kirk Cousins and long term massive deal AND drafted a QB in the first round.

Neither of those decisions in and of themselves are bad - both have pros and cons. But both together? Exceedingly stupid.

You know a rookie QB will struggle at first, but at least he’s cheap. Well, you ruined that because you gave a free agent QB a massive deal.

Also, that free agent (Kirk Cousins) was coming off an Achilles injury and was shocked and hurt you took a QB. Terrible.

Then in the next years draft, you give a first round pick to the Rams to trade back into the first round to get a guy who had serious character flaws in James Pierce.

He just got arrested this weekend for crashing into his ex-girlfriends car, hit a police office and is facing five felonies. At least he got 10.5 sacks though right????

Don’t even get me started on the Michael Vick situation in the 2000s and the Falcons desperately trying to get Deshaun Watson. The Browns are somehow more stupid than the Falcons.

Long story short, the Falcons are an incompetent rganization from the inside out. I think it starts with Arthur Blank and every bit of leadership.

Does hiring Falcons hero Matt Ryan fix this? Does the coaching and GM change fix this? I hope so, but I seriously doubt it.

This organization needs to rise up.
