The Warriors were able to pull off another come from behind victory in Portland tonight to take a convincing 3-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals. Steph Curry had a great game with over 30 points and Draymond Green had a triple double. All of this, while KD seems to not be close to getting back on the court. The Warriors are undoubtedly a more talented team with Durant on the floor. That doesn't change the fact that they have proven over the past four games, going back to the series with The Rockets, that they can still win without him.
The Warriors look like they did during their 2015 championship run and 2016 run, until the Finals when they lost to a Lebron James-led Cavaliers team. Great ball movement, strong bench play, and good chemistry. Without having KD on the floor, not only has Green played better, but Curry has as well. Having Durant's amazing scoring potential on the floor has almost hurt Golden State's offense in a way. There just isn't as much need for good ball movement, or making the extra pass when you have possibly the best pure scorer the game has ever seen. The Warriors have been forced to find a better offensive rhythm without Durant on the floor. It seems to be paying dividends in this series, as bench players and star players alike begin to make plays to win games. The Warriors have won over 30 games when Steph Curry has played and Durant has not. That's not exactly a small sample size.
It has been rumored that Durant is going to leave the Warriors this summer in Free Agency whether the Warriors win the title again or not. Durant wants to be considered the best player on the planet, and still feels unrecognized even after winning a pair of titles and finals mvps. The Warriors have won two titles since he has arrived, but who's to say they wouldn't have won them without him being there? They were already an all-time great team before he got there. If The Warriors are able to get to The Finals and keep winning games without him, it could quite possibly hurt KD's legacy. It could shed light to the fact that he was always a safety net for Golden State and never a necessity. This will definitely be an important topic as the rest of the playoffs roll on.
