The Lakers should NOT go after a third superstar

The Lakers did what they had to do by getting Anthony Davis.
Don’t get me wrong, giving up Josh Hart, Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and three first round picks to New Orleans is a lot. But The Lakers had to put a star next to LeBron James.
With all of the disfunction in the Lakers organization, it wasn’t guaranteed that any big free agent would sign there anyway.
LeBron also turned 34 years old and no one knows how many prime years he has left- or if he has any at all.
Anthony Davis is a bona fide superstar, and with the injuries to Golden State, makes the Lakers look like a great team this upcoming season.
Also, if the Lakers are able to sign him to an extension, he will give them security once LeBron leaves or retires.
The Lakers could have anywhere from $23-32 million in cap space once this AD trade gets finalized, which theoretically means they could go after another max player.
I understand trying to get a player like Kawhi Leonard or even a Kemba Walker would usually be a good idea for any team.
The Lakers are not any team.
If they signed a player to another max deal like Kawhi they would basically only have four players on their team: LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kyle Kuzma and Kawhi.
No matter who else they got it would be an extremely thin team who would be burnt out by the start of the playoffs with overuse.
The Lakers need to be content with getting one great signing, and should try to fill out the rest of their roster wisely.
They should focus on getting shooters. Guys like JJ Redick or Kyle Korver. Last season the Lakers tried to surround LeBron with “playmakers” instead of reliable shooters and the results speak for itself.
If the Lakers can put aside all the drama and the star-chasing and put together a solid lineup behind LeBron and Anthony Davis, this team could definitely set its sights on the championship this year and years to come.
