The Knicks keep making great moves - so will they be a great team?

As a Hawks fan, I loved hating the Knicks when the Hawks dominated them in the first round of the 2021 playoffs.

After that series, it felt like the Knicks and Hawks were going in completely different directions.

Flash forward a couple years, and the Knicks look like a team about to break out as one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

The Knicks finished this past season with a great playoff run, led by Jalen Brunson and “the Villanova boys” (Donte Divincenzo and Josh Hart).

They had this great playoff run without one of their best players, Julius Randle. They seemed to get better once he got injured in fact.

Like the Hawks did after their great 2021 playoff run, the Knicks could have sat on their hands and ran it back with the same team the following year.

So what did the Knicks do this offseason to capitalize?

They signed another great Villanova player, Mikal Bridges. Next, they signed their best player, Jalen Brunson, to an extremely team friendly deal.

I can’t emphasize the importance of the Brunson deal enough. Brunson took around $100 million less than he could have. Players in the NBA don’t take discounts like this.

Then, to top it all off, they just went out and got one of the best young centers in the NBA in Karl Anthony Towns.

Giving up only Divincenzo and Randle to get KAT feels like highway robbery. The Knicks only weakness seemed to be center and they got their guy.

This team has gone from seeming like they could do nothing right to feeling like they can do no wrong. This team has made great move after great move.

I would do anything for the Hawks to have even half as good of an offseason as the Knicks are having right now.

I genuinely don’t think I could be any more impressed with what the Knicks have done, but now the question will be how the team executes.

The team looks great on paper, but the NBA season is long and takes more than just stacking star players (look at Phoenix for example).

Championships aren’t won in the offseason, but this Knicks team is going to be a fun watch for what seems to be years to come.
