The Falcons Snatch Defeat From The Jaws of Victory

Sorry if I’ve used this title before, it’s just such a fitting description of how the Falcons happen to play football and lose games.

I have so many negative thoughts about the Falcons, but first I want to talk about the positives that happened in today’s game.

First, I want to mention that Michael Penix is not highly rated in people’s minds in terms of top quarterbacks or even quarterbacks from the 2024 class.

But Michael Penix went in to Foxborough today and nearly outplayed Drake Maye on the road. He had 3 touchdown passes and no interceptions.

Drake London also had an excellent day, catching those three touchdowns while also converting several key first downs in the game as well.

I also want to mention that the Jalon Walker strip sack and James Pearce recovery was a great play and almost single-handedly kept the Falcons in the game.

Now for the many negatives.

The Falcons should not have been in this game. The Patriots let the Falcons hang around and if not for the strip sack it could’ve been a three score game at half.

Next - Where has the running game gone? After looking outstanding against Buffalo, the running game has absolutely disappeared for the Falcons.

Even while I gave Penix credit earlier, I can’t say he played perfect.

He misses throws that he should absolutely complete and he has to stop getting flagged for intentional grounding.

This offense is entirely too reliant on Drake London and Bijan Robinson. Those two had three times as many targets than Mooney and Pitts had combined.

Coming from a lifelong Falcons fan, this team is just simply a below average, inconsistent team. They lose games they shouldn’t and sometimes win games they shouldn’t.

The Parker Romo missed extra point is irrelevant. You haven’t watched enough Falcons football if you thought the Falcons would win if it had gone through.

This team is a losing football team and has been for years. It will stay this way until huge changes are made from the top down. Today is just a microcosm of that.
