The Falcons Let a Primetime Opportunity Slip Away

As the final seconds ticked away in last nights game, Chiefs chants could be heard all throughout Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The Chiefs were the favorites, have the best quarterback in the league, and have several Super Bowl rings to show for it.

Yet, the Falcons should have won this game. They lead in the first quarter. They lead at half, and should’ve capitalized on one of their last two drives.

The first drive of the night from Cousins and the Falcons was surgical. The run and pass was working and London had an easy touchdown catch.

Then the Chiefs adjusted and the Falcons couldn’t seem to readjust. To be fair, some of this seemed to do with the Falcons losing two offensive linemen.

Even with linemen out, one could wonder why Bijan Robinson was force fed the ball (16 carries for a measly 31 yards) when the production wasn’t there.

Cousins also threw another bad interception right before half to give the Chiefs some points before heading to the locker room.

If the Falcons could have converted on either of their last two drives, all is forgiven. Not being able to pick up one yard on 3rd or 4th down on the last drive is unacceptable.

One could even argue the Falcons should’ve kicked a field goal on their second to last drive and then only had to kick a field goal to win on their last drive.

The Falcons had many chances to take this game, but they were never able to capitalize on those chances that they got.

That is the difference between a great team like the Chiefs and what we think is a good team in the Falcons.

Even with the 1-2 start, this upcoming three game stretch with three divisional opponents will define the Falcons season.

Will the Falcons capitalize or will they let it slip away like they did in prime time Sunday night? I guess we’ll know here soon enough.
