The Falcons Just Hired Another 2020 Retread

The Falcons brass in last years’ offseason said they had brought a large coaching staff for the 2024 season for a simple reason.

They thought they would have such a good season that several of their coaches were going to get poached going forward.

The Falcons then had another disappointing year, where they finished below .500 for the 8th season in a row.

After the underwhelming season, the Falcons thankfully fired the defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake.

This seemed like a good decision, considering the Falcons were close to the bottom in most defensive metrics - but what did they do next?

They hired Jeff Hulbrich as defensive coordinator. Hulbrich was Raheem Morris’ DC when he was interim head coach for the Falcons in 2020.

Am I living in the twilight zone? Did the Falcons have an amazing season in 2020 that I’m just forgetting? If not,why are we trying to recreate that coaching staff?

I think it would have been a great hire if instead we got Robert Saleh as the DC - not the Jets interim head coach that went 3-9 after Saleh got fired.

Maybe Saleh is considered too overqualified - but I haven’t heard his name being thrown around for any head coaching jobs.

I think this just shows poor leadership from the top down. From Fontenot, to Morris, to Ulbrich - this organization is putting its trust in the wrong people.

I don’t think Jimmy Lake should have been the only casualty this offseason, but we’ll see what other moves the Falcons make this offseason.
