The Falcons Haven’t Changed A Bit

With the signing of Kirk Cousins, a new head coach, and several offseason additions, the Falcons seemed ready to start a new era.

The team got off to a great start this year, going 6-3 in their first 9 games and leading the division by a comfortable margin.

Fast forward about a month and the Falcons are 6-7 and a game behind the Buccaneers in the NFC South.

The team is 4-1 against the NFC South, but 2-6 against every other opponent that they have faced this year.

I want to blame this all on the fact that Kirk Cousins has 8 interceptions and zero touchdowns in the last four games but I don’t think that tells the entire story.

Today against the Vikings, the secondary allowed three plays of over forty yards and let Addison and Jefferson run wild.

Even with a few sacks today, the defense is dead last in the category and has been near the bottom of the league since the Super Bowl run of 2016.

Bringing in an entirely new coaching staff with a defensive minded head coach still hasn’t seemed to help that side of the ball.

If we’re being completely honest, even if the Falcons were to make the playoffs this year - they’re just not a very good team.

The team had the added motivation of a Kirk Cousins revenge game today, and they still couldn’t beat the Vikings.

The Falcons have four games to try finish above .500 for the first time since 2017. Will they decide to make a quarterback change?

Start Penix, start Cousins, bring back Ridder - the results all seem to be the same. The Falcons are still a middling team trying to win a horrendous division.

The team has four games to regain the promise felt at the beginning of the season. Will the Falcons rise up or not?
