The Toronto Raptors have won it all. In my last post I predicted that the Warriors would win in five games, and I admit that I was wrong. In my defense, I don’t think anyone could have expected Kevin Durant to come back for the first quarter of game 5 just to rupture his Achilles.
I made my prediction on the thought that KD would come back to the series at some point, healthy and ready to go.
Also, I truly believe if Klay Thompson wouldn’t have gotten injured last night that the Warriors would have won the game. Then it would have gone to game 7 where it would’ve been a toss up.
Klay Thompson was on an absolute tear. Not only last night, but the entire series. Going into game 6 last night, he had shot an otherworldly 57% from three. That feels like video game numbers.
He had 28 points last night and had gone 8-12 on the night before he suffered his injury. The game had been close throughout, with the Warriors having the edge through a good portion of the game
Thompson even managed to walk back out onto the court and drained two clutch free throws.. on a torn ACL. It was reminiscent of Kobe draining two free throws after tearing his Achilles. It just confirmed his grit and determination.
Losing Thompson and KD is a big blow not only for the Warriors, but for the league itself. Hopefully both recover quickly.
Even with all the injuries the Warriors suffered, props have to be given to the Toronto Raptors. They won on the Warriors home floor three times during the series which is truly remarkable.
Many of their role players stepped up such as Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, and Serge Ibaka.
Their rookie head coach Nick Nurse led the team through not only a long regular season, but an intense postseason.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without Kawhi Leonard. He was the X-Factor and the deserving Finals MVP.
Soon Toronto will have to worry about trying to convince Leonard to stay.
Winning this championship is a good start.
