I’ve heard a lot of people say this about coaching and it always seems to ring true. A new head coach may not have a good record starting out - but do they get their side of the ball right?
An offensive head coach better have a strong offense and a defensive coach better have a good defense.
The Falcons came into the season with lots of new faces and higher expectations than they’ve had in years.
After week 1, the offense has steadily improved and has generally delivered on a week to week basis. The same can not be said about the defense.
Even after getting Matthew Judon and drafting several defense linemen, the Falcons are getting very few sacks. Seemingly like every other year.
The Falcons even got Pro Bowl safety Simmons to pair with AJ Terrel and Jesse Bates to make a star studded secondary.
Yet, the Seahawks last week cooked the Falcons for four quarters last week as Geno Smith was able to sit in the pocket comfortably all day long.
The Buccaneers today, even after losing their top two targets in Godwin and Evans on Monday, didn’t skip a beat against the Atlanta defense.
Morris was an interim coach for the Falcons several years ago, and I still didn’t love the hire this offseason even if he learned under wunderkind Sean McVay the past several years.
