Kirk Cousins had some comments about his current situation with the Falcons on the second season of Netflix’s Quarterbacks series.
He said that he felt “misled” by the Falcons after they drafted Penix in the first round of the last year’s NFL draft.
He even admitted to not wanting to sit once he got his injury in the middle of the season so as not to give way to Penix.
If anything, the Falcons should feel mislead by Cousins and how he’s handled his time in Atlanta.
Problems immediately began before the season even started with Cousins causing the Falcons to get penalized for tampering while recruiting him.
With Cousins at the helm though, the Falcons had a dream 6-3 start to the season and things seemed like they couldn’t get any better - and they wouldn’t.
With Cousins undisclosed injury, the Falcons watched their season absolutely fall apart. They went 2-6 the rest of the season after the dream start.
If Penix had been allowed to start a few games earlier, I have no doubt the Falcons make the playoffs in the terrible NFC South division.
Penix was not given the chance early enough though, due to Kirk’s selfishness to keep his job - to the absolute detriment of the team.
Cousins can try to make the Falcons the villain, but he surely has his part to play in this saga. Lets also not forget he is still being paid very handsomely.
His career earnings have far surpassed Tom Brady, who is the greatest football player ever (this coming from a Falcons fan).
Cousins cost the Falcons a playoff spot last year. I don’t feel sorry for him sitting on the bench for the rest of his Falcons contract, or until we get fair value back for him.
We don’t owe him any favors to cut or release him. You made your bed Kirk Cousins - lay in it.
