Can McLaren end Red Bull’s reign?

As Oscar Piastri crossed the line for his maiden race victory in F1, McLaren were not as happy as one would think after finishing 1-2 in today’s race.

The McLaren drivers lead throughout, but it became contentious when it came to deciding who would finish first.

McLaren had Lando Norris pit on lap 46 for fresh tires before his teammate. By doing so, Norris was able to overtake his teammate for the lead.

For the next twenty laps, the team had to beg Norris to let Piastri pass back into first place which he was very reluctant to do.

Norris eventually let Piastri through on the penultimate lap of the race, but this did not seem to cool the tensions during post race interviews.

Even with the drama in the team, McLaren was able to take advantage on a day when championship leading Red Bull did not perform to their standard.

Max Verstappen finished fifth in the race even after a very close call with Lewis Hamilton where the two collided towards the end of the race.

Red Bull’s second driver Sergio Perez finished 7th after starting 16th in the race due to another poor qualifying session yesterday.

Perez has had a string of poor performances which has brought many teams such as Ferrari and McLaren into contention.

Red Bull has been dominant over the last several years, Verstappen almost single-handedly winning the championships for the team.

This year seems to be different. Halfway through the season, there has already been seven different race winners. Last year there were only two.

McLaren seems to have the best car at the moment, but has missed several opportunities already this year to secure race wins.

Can McLaren or even Ferrari get over the hump to win the Constructor’s championship? Will Red Bull rise to the occasion to continue their winning ways?

It’s going to be a fun second half of the season to find out.
